ELK stampede!

Back in January I was saying Lions and tigers and bearsELKs, Oh my! when I first started talking about these new beasts here and the way that new locales were being added.

Now, the ELKs are stampeding again! You can look at 897338 in the Knowledge Base for info, or head right to the download center and see locale support added to Windows XP SP2 for all of the following languages:

Awesome!

Whilst I dont personally have any use for these languages, I do applaud the addition of these languages to Windows :)

Looking at the list of files it changes/patches, I can see that there is still a work to be done before people outside of microsoft can make new ELKs (if nothing else, no-one outside of microsoft has the source code to kernel32.dll :)

Ah, keep your eyes on this spot. I'll be talking about that very very soon! :-)

# Richard on 9 Aug 2005 11:11 AM:

Do these ELKs actually include MUI functionality (ie changing the Windows UI into that language) or just locale information?

# Michael S. Kaplan on 9 Aug 2005 1:04 PM:

Hi Richard --

No, that would a LIP, not an ELK. See http://blogs.msdn.com/michkap/archive/2005/02/10/370460.aspx for more info....

# Mihai on 9 Aug 2005 1:09 PM:

Nice. Congrats :-)
But...
GetLocaleInfo for Bosnian Cyrillic (0x201a) returns ANSI code page 1250 instead of 1251 (LOCALE_IDEFAULTANSICODEPAGE).

# Michael S. Kaplan on 9 Aug 2005 3:54 PM:

Funny you should mention about the code page -- I think someone just fixed that bug for Vista. :-)
