Where the hell is Michael?

It all started on the night of Sunday, October 14th.

I fell.

Hardly unusual for me, but this fall was quite different than the 983 falls prior.

There was a pop.

Unable to get up, I called 911.

The ambulance took me to Overlake, where xrays quickly confirmed that I seriously broke my left hip.

Surgery to replace the hip happened the next day (Monday, October Th).

Surgery went very well, and I 100% pain free.

I left the hospital on Thursday, October 18th, to a rehab in Shoreline named Crista Assisted Living

People nearby want to visit? It's 19303 Fremont Avenue North.

You may want to call first (my cellular is 425-260-8744) if you're planning on visiting!

Lots of physical therapy, lots of occupational therapy, lots of dealing with six weeks of range of motion restrictions which, if violated, could result in me re-breaking the hip.

I really don't want to do that.

So, for now, I work through my MS, my post-op restrictions, and integrating the iBOT in this community where the next youngest patient is 25 years older than me,

I am working remotely. I'll get into blogging again.

And today, I'll be doing my three presentations at the 36th Internationalization and Unicode Conference remotely from my room. :-)

Heal quickly!

Doug Ewell on 24 Oct 2012 7:49 AM:

Hope you're doing better soon.

John Cowan on 24 Oct 2012 8:42 AM:

Sympathies.

So, did you break your hip and fall, or did you fall and break your hip?  People often speak of the second when it's really the first that's happened -- the shaft snaps for endogenous reasons, and down you go.

Andrew Sherman on 24 Oct 2012 12:00 PM:

Get well soon!

Oops... Hope you get well soon.

Btw, don't you feel younger there? :P

Ian Boyd on 24 Oct 2012 8:20 PM:

Rehab well

Marc Brooks on 24 Oct 2012 10:10 PM:

You know how to stack it up, busy man.... heal up quick.

Serge Wautier on 26 Oct 2012 11:15 AM:

Hi Michael, not able to come and visit you due to various reasons such as an ocean and a continent stupidly sitting between us. Best recovery wishes though!

Pavanaja U B on 18 Jan 2013 7:14 PM:

Sorry to hear this. I have been little away from i18n issues (working on digital library) and hence was not visiting your blog. Hope you have recovered fully.
