More on changes to the Hijri calendar?

Some may recall when I have talked about the secular enhancements to the important dates in the Hijri calendar, like in this post.

Well, Ihab sent some mail yesterday that showed how some people are taking the idea a lot more seriously than just enhancements. The article title is:

FIQH COUNCIL OF NORTH AMERICA DECIDED ON ASTRONOMICAL CALCULATIONS FOR ISLAMIC DATES

Of course I do not know how much real influence the Islamic Society of North America can have on the worldwide needs of the Hijri calendar, in particular the needs of those in countries like Saudi Arabia that have their own secular solution in place (the Um Al Quara calendar I have talked about in the past). But the direction is nevertheless an interesting one, and the summary of how consensus was established here are fascinating....
